US improves OLED technology has more advantages than ordinary LED

American researchers have recently developed a new "spin polarized" OLED (organic light-emitting diode) technology. The improved organic light-emitting diodes have more advantages than ordinary light-emitting diodes (LEDs).

OLED refers to the technology that organic materials emit light under the action of an electric field. It has the advantages of active light emission, no backlight, bright colors, and low power consumption. Researchers believe that after effectively improving the luminous efficiency of OLEDs and reducing manufacturing costs, OLEDs are expected to replace LEDs that are currently widely used in many electronic products such as computers, televisions, and lighting equipment.

Researchers at the University of Utah published a research report in the latest issue of Science in the United States, saying that the new OLED they developed uses a device called an organic spin valve. This device has a three-layer structure, the organic layer in the middle is equivalent to a semiconductor, and the two sides are ferromagnetic metal electronic layers. The organic layer uses a polymer called "deuterium-DOO-PPV", which can emit orange light at a lower cost and can improve luminous efficiency. The whole device is extremely thin and light and can be installed inside the lamp.

The researchers said that this technology can only work under low temperature environment, and needs to be further improved to meet the requirements of working at room temperature. In addition, it is also desired to produce OLEDs that can produce white light.
