Vishay Announces New Surface Mount MLCCs with Integrated Resistors for Fast Discharge

A few days ago, Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. Announced the launch of VJ CDC, a new ceramic multi-layer chip capacitor (MLCC) using an integrated resistor and low electrostrictive ceramic formulation. For high pulse current applications, the VJ controlled discharge capacitor (CDC) provides excellent stability, withstands high voltages from 1000VDC to 1500VDC, and capacities from 33nF to 560nF.

Integrating the high-capacity MLCC with the leakage resistance allows the VJ CDC to discharge more quickly while reducing the required board space and assembly costs. Typical applications for the device include detonation equipment (munitions, pyrotechnics, blasting devices) and electronic fuzes.

The capacitors released today are manufactured using precious metal electrode technology (NME) and wet manufacturing processes. VJ CDC uses a low-electrostrictive ceramic formulation that enables repeated charge and discharge cycles to achieve very high reliability when used in the field.

The VJ CDC has dimensions of 3040, 3640, and 4044, and uses X7R and X5P dielectrics. The 3040 device has a capacity of 33nF to 220nF, the 3640 device has a capacity of 47nF to 330nF, and the 4044 device has a capacity of 100nF to 560nF.

The working temperature of the capacitor is -55°C to +125°C, the capacity temperature coefficient (TCC) of the capacitor using X5P dielectric in the temperature range of -55°C to +85°C is ±10%, and the device using the X7R dielectric is -55°C to +125 The temperature coefficient of capacitance in the °C temperature range is ±15%. The device complies with the halogen-free regulations of IEC 61249-2-21.

VJ CDC capacitors are now in volume production with a lead time of 14 weeks or more.
