Vishay pushes new VRPower® integrated DrMOS power stage solution

MALVERN, PA — February 17, 2016 — Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) today announced high current, high efficiency and high power density for next-generation notebooks, ultra-portable notebooks and desktop PCs Performance requirements, the introduction of five new VRPower® integrated DrMOS power stage solutions - SiC530, SiC531, SiC532, SiC631 and SiC632, can be used in multi-phase POL regulators. Vishay Siliconix's five devices combine a power MOSFET, an advanced MOSFET gate drive IC, and a bootstrap Schottky in a thermally enhanced 4.5mm x 3.5mm PowerPAK® MLP4535-22L and 5mm x 5mm PowerPAK MLP55-31L package. Diodes have a 45% smaller footprint than discrete devices. The high power density of the device makes it ideal for computing platforms using the Intel® Skylake platform. The device is also suitable for industrial PCs and high current multiphase modules used in networking and industrial applications.

Today's mobile computing and desktop computing platforms require more current than previous generations, while requiring smaller areas and sizes than ever before. The integrated device in the 4.5mm x 3.5mm PowerPAK MLP55-31L package today delivers up to 30A of continuous current, and the 5mm x 5mm PowerPAK MLP55-31L package delivers 40A continuous current. In addition to outputting large currents and saving footprint, these power stages also reduce package parasitics, allowing switching frequencies up to 2MHz, reducing the size of the output filter and further reducing the size and height of the solution. To improve performance, the device's high-side and low-side MOSFETs use Vishay's current best Gen IV TrenchFET® technology to reduce switching and conduction losses. The power stage driver IC is compatible with a wide range of PWM controllers and supports a 5V tri-state PWM logic level.

SiC530, SiC531, SiC532, SiC631, and SiC632 are suitable for synchronous buck converters, DC/DC voltage regulator modules, multiphase VRDs for CPUs and GPUs, and memories. To improve light load efficiency in these applications, the device's driver IC features a diode modulation mode circuit and a zero current sense circuit. Adaptive dead time control helps to further increase efficiency at all load points. To support the IM48's PS4 mode light load requirements, when the system is operating in standby mode, the power stage will reduce the current to 5μA and can wake up from this state within 5μs. The device is RoHS compliant, halogen-free, and has protection features such as undervoltage lockout (UVLO).
