DOE plans to sponsor a small business sponsorship plan of $150 million announced on April 3

The DOE Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA-E) announced that it will implement a new round of sponsorship programs for $150 million. The program will have 60-80 projects, each ranging from $250,000 to $10 million. The full sponsorship program is expected to be announced on April 3, and the pre-application will be closed on May 1.

The program is for Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR). Profitable institutions, non-profit organizations, and educational institutions can participate, and companies outside the United States can apply, but must work by their affiliates in the United States.

The sponsorship program is based on the 2015 solid-state lighting development plan released by the US Energy Administration last year. The goal is to achieve packaged LED efficacy of more than 224lm / W or OLED efficacy of more than 125lm / W, color rendering > 90, reduce color change 10X (such as Duv < 0.0014). The realization of these goals will depend on some technical problems, such as improving light extraction efficiency, improving the efficiency of LED monochromatic light (red, green, amber), creating new geometric or material systems.
