Passed the Ministry of Public Security will push the unified access standard for WiFi wireless Internet access

Informed sources disclosed that given the lack of unified management, public WiFi with huge public safety risks, including non-business scenes such as restaurants, hotels, supermarkets, etc., especially the newly emerged public transport scenes of WiFi, will be standardized. The management of the access system, which is currently under development, is expected to be officially launched in the first half of 2015.

The demand for wireless Internet access is huge, and the number of WiFi hotspots is weak

Before commercial WiFi is not popular, WiFi hotspots provided by China are mainly provided by the three major state-owned telecom operators. The number of hotspots totals about 4 to 6 million, and all of them use real-name charges.

With the popularity of thousands of smart machines and the decreasing traffic charges, wireless terminals are rapidly developing. According to incomplete statistics, China’s device terminals with WiFi Internet access (including tablet PCs with only WiFi Internet access interfaces) are operating at approximately 1 billion level. Business hotspots are far from meeting the needs of businesses and individuals.

For various reasons, the telecom operators are public WiFi and have not found a good profit model. Multi-party information shows that in the future operators will not increase their hot spots.

With the onslaught of commercial WiFi start-ups starting in 2012, numerous tens of thousands of hot spots have been established in various scenarios. In addition to the fixed-network-plus-route WiFi configuration, public transport is the main scene, such as subways. , trains, buses, taxis, there is a WiFi form of Internet Card Plus route. Most of them are provided free of charge and are non-operating. It is expected that in the near future, the hot spots provided by telecom operators will be marginalized.

According to Meng Technology's analysis, the future hotspots will form the following pattern: hot spots of telecom operators, public hot spots promoted by the government, commercial WiFi hotspots, independent WiFi for businesses, and home hotspots.

WiFi has huge information security risks

It is worth noting that the security of WiFi was the focus of discussion at the inaugural conference of the China WiFi Industry Alliance held in Beijing in early February 2015.

In layman's terms, the security issue of WiFi consists of three completely different security issues. Some experts summed up the three models. The first one was a thief inside the net, the second one was a thief, and the third one was a thief after the net.

There are two aspects in terms of security hazards. One is the disclosure of the privacy of users (businesses or individuals) and the insecurity of the (business or personal) property, and the other is the insecurity of government information management and control.

Many media have reported that users without security awareness to log in to some of the security risks of WiFi caused the Alipay account password stolen, heavy losses; also have users' home WiFi is stolen resulting in personal privacy leaks.

In 2006, the government issued relevant safety regulations

According to Meng Technology, the provisions of technical measures for Internet security protection were passed by the Ministry of Public Security Ministerial Office on November 23, 2005, and issued by Order No. 82 of the Ministry of Public Security of the People's Republic of China on December 13, 2005. It will be implemented on March 1 of the year, in which merchant WiFi is also required to meet the specifications.

Some companies have provided solutions according to the requirements of the Ministry of Public Security, such as an Internet security management software, which is mainly aimed at Internet users' online behavior control, content auditing, and black and white lists.

The senior WiFi industry practitioner and cloud alliance founder Lin Zhaoxu told Meng Technology. In fact, the Hangzhou Public Security Bureau recently issued relevant requirements to various service sites and installed an Internet auditing system. This is the so-called network security filing system. The main contents are as follows:

"Specialized personnel are required to be responsible for the recordation of the computer information network of the company on the international Internet network. If the technical measures for security protection are not implemented, the public security agency will follow the Measures for the Management of International Network Security Protection of Computer Information Network (Article 21 and Article 23). Regulations, give warnings and order deadlines for rectification; if they have not been corrected within the prescribed time limit, the person-in-charge of the unit and other persons directly responsible may be punished with a fine of not more than 5,000 yuan, and the unit may be punished with less than 15,000 yuan. If the circumstances are serious, the offenders may be given a penalty of no more than six months to stop the network and stop the rectification. If necessary, they may propose that the original issuing authority, the examining and approving agency revoke the operating permit, or cancel the networking qualification.

According to feedback from various Internet sources to the WiFi industry researcher Xiong Ge, people from all walks of life recently, especially in terms of travel, such as public transport and WiFi are repeatedly called out by local public security agencies, perhaps preparing for the introduction of a new unified standard.

It is worth noting that most commercial WiFi networks adopt the fixed-network and routed WiFi form and will continue to implement the No. 82 order in 2006. However, due to No. 82 orders, public transport is not a good scene, such as subways, trains, and buses. In the form of WiFi, such as Internet access, taxis, etc., it is bound to implement new methods.

People in the industry have different attitudes and are mainly optimistic

On the whole, whether it is a WiFi network operated by a WiFi startup company or a free WiFi network established by a business individual, it has achieved tremendous development in the past three years. In this booming development, there is a low threshold, disorder, no management, and even chaos. The security-based regulations initiated by the public security authorities should be good for the development of the entire industry, because the WiFi market needs more regulation to develop in an orderly manner.

From another perspective, there are rules that can avoid corporate risks and some disorderly competition. This is a good thing.

Of course, there are many different opinions and concerns.

In the discussion of the WiFi circle WeChat Group initiated by Meng Technology, Du Fu, product manager of Xi'an Nuoyi Information Technology Co., Ltd., said that security is a problem facing the WiFi industry. However, security is not just a policy, but what is more needed is a technical guarantee. . At present, it is regulated to operate, for example, qualification review. If security regulations are introduced, it is not always a good practice to fully define safety and insecurity. This has caused difficulties in implementation, and it is still too early to restrict the development of the industry. In a word, it needs, but it is still a bit early.

Anonymous practitioners said that they are cautious and pessimistic and do not even fly.

In any case, it can be foreseen that once the new regulations are issued, those companies that are engaged in public transport Internet access services will be checked for compliance with the "Internet Service Standards for Public Transport."

to sum up:

MTR Technologies believes that the introduction of a sound and open legally binding security regulation will be a landmark event for the development of the WiFi market in 2015. Of course, this has virtually created a threshold for those companies that do not have core technologies and lack operating strength. Will be eliminated.
