The TPS92561 is a phase dimmable single-stage boost controller for LED illumination. This article introduces the TPS92561 features, application range, reference design circuit, and circuit analysis to help you reduce design time.

TPS92561 features:

This controller is used in LED lighting applications with high voltage, low current LEDs. The use of boost converters in lighting applications produces converters that are as small as possible and can achieve high efficiencies of over 90%. The device includes a current sense comparator with a fixed offset to implement a simple hysteresis control mechanism that does not have the loop compensation issues typically associated with boost converters. Integrated overvoltage protection (OVP) and VCC regulators further simplify the design process and reduce the number of external components.

Typical features: simple hysteresis control, compact solution and simple bill of materials, natural dimmable triacs (TRIAC) and anti-phase dimmers, LED driver circuits, greater than 90% efficiency, power factor Greater than 0.9 and less than 20% total harmonic distortion (THD), programmable output overvoltage protection, thermal shutdown, VCC undervoltage lockout, 8-pin ultra-small outline (VSSOP) with exposed pad (surface) Mount Small Form Factor (MSOP) package

Typical applications for the TPS92561 include: off-line TRIAC dimming applications, off-line dimmable lamps, lamps requiring efficient and lowest bill of materials (BOM) cost, industrial and commercial solid-state lighting
