Nissan plans to launch low-cost pure electric vehicles (EV) in China after 2018

According to "Nikkei Business News" reported on July 5, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. Nishikawa Hiroto said in an interview with "Nikkei Business News" that after 2018, low-cost pure electric vehicles (EVs) will be launched in China. Nissan plans to share the chassis with French Renault and Mitsubishi Motors, which will carry out capital cooperation, and control the price of new cars to about half of the main pure electric vehicle "LEAF", which is only about 1.5 million yen (about RMB 90,300). In addition, Nishikawa also revealed its policy of entrusting production to local Chinese companies with cost competitiveness.

The pure electric vehicle that Nissan plans to launch in China is a "Class A" small car. In major cities such as Beijing and Shanghai, this class of cars is popular as a short-distance moving method in the city. Nishikawa said that "I want to launch as soon as possible" is considered to be the fastest to start selling in 2018. This is the first time that Japanese car companies have indicated that they will launch low-cost pure electric vehicles in China.

In general, the development of the chassis requires tens of billions of yen, so Nissan will reduce development costs by sharing the chassis with Renault and Mitsubishi. In terms of production, the company plans to entrust a company with a small car production experience under the Dongfeng Motor Group, a joint venture of Nissan in China. Renault also plans to use the same chassis as Nissan, and in 2019, it launched a pure electric version of the small KW model "KWID" in China.

In addition, Nissan will also launch a comprehensive improvement of the wind in China in the near future, as a high-end pure electric vehicle that can achieve the city's mobile life as a single-life distance, aiming at the replacement needs of gasoline vehicle users. On the other hand, Nishikawa said that it will have the function of meeting the needs of consumers in urban areas, and hopes to obtain a wide range of customers such as the demand for the purchase of a second car.

Driven by generous subsidy policies, China's pure electric vehicle market has grown to the largest in the world. In recent years, Chinese local companies headed by BYD (BYD) are rising with low prices as weapons. It is expected that the Chinese government will introduce environmental protection restrictions that require automobile manufacturers to produce a certain number of electric vehicles as early as 2019, and the pure electric vehicle market is considered to be further expanded.

Japanese car companies started late in China's pure electric vehicle market, and only Nissan launched the improved model of the wind with its own brand “Venucia”. In order to reverse the situation, Honda announced plans to launch pure electric vehicles in China in 2018 in April 2017. Toyota also said it is considering producing pure electric vehicles in China.
