Oculus talks about the future of Rooms and Partners on the Rift platform

VR is great in many ways, but at the same time it lacks in many aspects. Ease of use (especially when playing with friends in VR) presents a huge challenge for the experience. The solution that Oculus announced about seven months ago has already gone live with Gear VR and has also received a warm welcome. Oddly enough, we did not find this feature on Oculus's high-end VR platform Rift, especially when the multiplayer VR games on SteamVR were significantly optimized. Now, Knight Michel, the head of the Oculus Rift department, has released more information about the Rift version of Rooms and Partners.

Rooms & Parties

Oculus Rooms and Parts was originally released at the end of 2016. This latest application and feature is designed to fix the most frustrating problem in the multiplayer Rift game: Find your Oculus friends in VR. Once you can enter the same game and successfully match, multiplayer games on Rift usually perform well, but to achieve this is a frustrating challenge, because after you put on your head, you will not be able to easily access most of the commonly used Digital communication tools, such as information and voice applications.

The Rooms app is intended to be a general hall before the game where friends can find each other, discuss the experiences they would like to experience in VR, and start a magical journey together. It is important that the user has something to do before waiting for a friend to arrive, instead of wearing his head to sit on the side, and look through the gap to see if the phone will appear as a friend.

At the same time, Partyes is a new feature in Oculus's panel: Global Voice Chat allows friends to engage in conversations anytime, anywhere. This makes it easier for users to sync and play because you don't have to take off your head (or uncomfortable sighting) and look at the information and voice applications in your smartphone. This also means that players can maintain a dialogue with their friends while playing single-player games in VR.

When the Rooms and Partners were released in 2016, they both launched Geat VR and kept updating. Oculus stated at the time that Rooms and Partners will land on the Rift in 2017, which naturally delights users.

Absence of the Rift platform

It has now arrived in July 2017, and Rooms and Parties have not yet appeared on the Rift platform. After the introduction of the SteamVR Home Beta, which combines existing Steam voice calling and chat features (which is basically all the features of Rooms and Parties), the absence of both of them has made Rift users feel painful. Although the features on SteamVR Home are not yet perfect, at least users can already use it.

In terms of Rift's "age", the platform is quite mature in many aspects, but Oculus Home on Rift is seriously lacking in the ease of use of multiplayer games, and players have also noticed this. The community has already appealed (direct and indirect) to Maple.com and hopes that it can contact Oculus and understand the schedule of related projects.

Oculus's attitude

Fortunately, Evangelical has learned about Rift's version of Rooms and Parties through perhaps the best person to discuss the topic (Nitt Michel, head of the Rift department).

Knight Michele said: “We have let Rooms land Gear VR, and we are really happy. The rooms team is growing very fast. They push more or less updates every month, and it’s quite significant. This update has added new features that are exciting to us. We see that usage continues to increase. Therefore, we are very excited about Mobile's Rooms."

Subsequently, Michel gave their explanations for people's criticism that Rooms should be a quick and easy port on the Rift.

He said: "...someone said, 'Why aren't they (the team focused on the mobile side) not directly bringing it to the PC?' Actually, for a limited team, they have accelerated as much as possible, by focusing on a platform More value is brought to the mobile user than trying to bring everything to the PC at the same time. This is especially true, especially because Rooms are based on Unity and it uses Android, so there will always be features specific to Android (eg Codecs, especially video or audio, cannot bring everything directly to the PC."

Parties will land on Rift

For those who want to “entertain together” in VR, Rooms can definitely satisfy you. Michel said Facebook SPACES meets this need and is actively updating and expanding. However, Rift users do not use Rooms as a place to “entertain together,” but as a way to resolve the effects of experiencing VR with their Rift friends.

Michel explained: "So people are asking when will the Rooms come to the PC?" Soon there will be new features on the PC, and that's parties. So we will bring continuous voice calls to the PC. Independent of Rooms, this will be launched soon, so you can open the general menu and you can say 'Oh, I want to chat with Knight', and then I'll receive a notification and say, 'Hey, you want to play with Ben "I would say 'the answer is yes, I can't wait to chat with him again'. Then we will be able to conduct continuous voice calls across multiple content."

Rooms?

But what about Rooms as the pre-game lobby for players to gather together and select games that they want to play together? Michel answered:

“What does this mean for Rooms? (Long pauses to think about) We have some bigger plans for the Rift in the Rift community. Our team has been working on something... It's been a while... We think This is the next evolution of the Oculus platform on the PC. We can't talk too much today, but I can say that our vision for the Oculus platform is at the heart of the VR community."

Then he began to shift his focus to the Oculus vision for the Rift, and their goal was not only to optimize the multiplayer Rift gaming experience.

"(Our goal is) When you put on Rift, you will go directly to Chaoyuan. We will continue to push the Oculus platform on PC to move towards this vision, and all this will start from the social, through the Partys and Spaces and so on, but it will get bigger and we will share more in the second half of this year."

Although it sounds promising, we seem to have deviated from the original topic. I asked Michelle if he was referring to the expansion of the Rift version of Rooms or saying that he was talking about different things. His answer shows that the existence of the Rift version of Rooms is still largely an assumption.

“The following are additional notes. Rooms may still be online... I’m talking about something different (Oculus's vision of a hyperdomain-like experience.) Rooms may still come to the Rift, which is not impossible. But today I What we are talking about is not referring to the next few months, so we haven't ruled out (Rooms landed on the Rift)."

Commitment to new features

Michel said that Rooms are at least on the mobile side, and Oculus is actively developing. On the Rift side, he said that the community can believe that he and Oculus can solve the problems facing the current Rift multiplayer game.

"...I can say that the (Rooms) team is focusing on the mobile community. So on the mobile community, if you are a Gear VR user, you should expect that Rooms will bring you more in the near future. If you are a Rift user, you may be a little frustrated and say, 'Wait a minute, are you saying that Rooms will not come to me?' I can promise you that (Rift community) can trust me, we are very It will soon bring some amazing things to the Rift community, and in the future Rooms may still be on the PC side, and we will wait and see."

Michel admitted that he personally relied on Discord's voice and text chat to collaborate with friends on multiplayer Rift content. Michel also said that he believes that the global voice realized through parties in the near future can save most of the dissatisfaction of current Rift users. However, he also realized that one of the functions that the Rift community expects is to start Rift games together in the same place. Michel pointed out that whether this feature will appear in the form of Rooms, he understands the community's desire for this feature.

“We will wait and see when the collaborative application launch will land on the Rift. I mean we understand everything. We created all of this (on the mobile), so it’s just a matter of time, and what’s the most meaningful schedule."

Cross-platform communication

More broadly, although partyies and collaborative applications start to sound great, one of the key issues is the communication between the headed user and the headless user. I asked Michele if Oculus recognizes the need for communication between VR platforms and non-VR platforms: a way to invite friends from inside or in VR and transfer them to a mobile phone or computer, through voice chat and voice Contact friends, whether they are in the real world or the VR world.

For this, Michelle laughed: "(I) do see this need. How do you feel like you are a member of the Rift team..."

Spoke Type Load Cell

Spoke type load cells, also called pancake load cells have a mounting rig and female center-thread, low profile, high precision, tension or compression load cells with eccentric load capability. Capacities vary from 1t - 500t. which makes them suitable for compression and tension applications. It is used for electronic, tensile testing, impact testing, tank and silo level monitoring, and other industrial weighing system.
