Digital signal correction

During the transmission of digital signals, due to interference or deterioration of channel characteristics, etc., it may cause errors (errors) in the transmitted digital signals, so error correction is an essential process to improve the quality of digital transmission.

So, how does error correction work? Figure JU-1 shows the whole process of error correction. After the analog signal undergoes analog-to-digital conversion, additional data (such as parity bit) is added to the data stream, and the parity bit is used to find the erroneous data word at the receiving end (i.e. Perform identification to identify data words with errors) and correct them. There are three methods for correcting errors: squelch, keeping the previous word, and linear interpolation.

1. Squelch

When an error occurs and is identified, the relevant circuit will transmit the terminal circuit at the point where the error occurred, that is, by using squelch. Squelch only plays a role in the error correction process, and is usually used in the case of continuous errors.

2. Keep the previous words

Digital processing circuits usually use a large number of storage circuits to process these data signals for a short time of continuous memory when processing digital signals, so that when a "suspicious" data word is found, the closest to it can be used. To replace the previous data, as shown in Figure JU-3. Replacing the erroneous data word with the previous data word has less error (due to correlation) than the data without error, so this method of error correction is reasonable. So keeping the preceding word is an acceptable method of error correction.

3. Linear interpolation

Linear interpolation can further improve the above error correction method. The so-called linear interpolation is to take the average value of the previous data word and the next data word of the error word, and use this value to replace the error word. Obviously this method can get more accurate error correction.
