Samsung sets up AI Lab in Canada to focus on original algorithm

Global Network Technology Report — According to a report from foreign media on September 25, Samsung Electronics has taken another step forward in the field of artificial intelligence by establishing an AI research lab in Montreal, Canada. The new facility, set up in August under the Samsung Institute of Advanced Technology (SAIT), is focused on advancing core algorithms in robotics, autonomous systems, machine translation, and speech and image recognition.

The lab brings together researchers from SAIT as well as leading academics like Professor Yoshua Bengio, a renowned expert in deep learning and AI. This collaboration aims to push the boundaries of AI technology and explore its potential for future applications. Samsung emphasized that the lab will work closely with top research institutions to develop key components for AI algorithms, which could be commercialized within the next five to ten years.

Recently, Samsung has already made progress in applying AI technologies, such as developing cadmium-free quantum dot displays, which are now featured in their flagship TV models. Additionally, the company is working on AI-powered smart speakers, expected to launch next year. By 2020, all of Samsung's home appliance lines are planned to integrate AI capabilities. In another move, Samsung has also partnered with Kakao, one of South Korea’s largest messaging platforms, to enhance AI-driven communication solutions.

This latest development highlights Samsung’s growing commitment to AI innovation and its efforts to stay at the forefront of the rapidly evolving tech landscape. (Internship Compilation: Sun Yize | Reviewer: Li Zongze)
