China's LED production status is also a small country

The Interim Measures for the Administration of Financial Subsidy Funds for Efficient Lighting Products Promotion, which was implemented by the Ministry of Finance in 2008, has included semiconductor (LED) lighting products, but LED lighting products currently do not have complete national standards.

These days, Xue Wenyan, the general manager of Zhejiang Pujiang Zhongxing Co., Ltd., is mixed. The good news is that the solid LED lighting LED trunk road light produced by her company has just been selected by Zhejiang Provincial Government as “Zhejiang Province Energy-saving Technology and Product Promotion Guide Catalogue”. The worry is: LED lighting is really difficult to promote.

LED is an abbreviation for semiconductor lighting. It is a solid-state light source made of semiconductor chips. It relies on electron-hole recombination luminescence to convert electrical energy into light energy with an efficiency of more than 80%. In the Olympic venues, LED technology is widely used as a representative of independent innovation.

It is understood that LED energy consumption is only 10% of incandescent lamps and 50% of fluorescent lamps; it is packaged in a solid package with a lifetime of 100,000 hours, 10 times that of fluorescent lamps and 100 times that of incandescent lamps; it does not require a glass vacuum package. No toxic gas and mercury pollution.

LED lighting technology will once again change our world. Xue Wenyan told reporters like this. It is understood that in recent years, the world's three major lighting industry giants General Electric, Philips and Osram have set up semiconductor lighting companies, developed countries have even started national projects, hoping to seize the commanding heights of emerging industries.

The production of energy-saving products in large countries

China is the world's second largest power generation country. In 2007, China's total power generation was 325.59 billion kWh, and annual lighting power consumption reached 390 billion kWh, equivalent to the total electricity consumption in the UK for one year.

Since the 1990s, the major producers of energy-saving lamps have been widely used in the country, while the energy-saving lamps made in China are mainly used to satisfy exports, and the domestic penetration rate is not high. According to statistics, in 2003, the output of China's energy-saving lamps was 1 billion, accounting for 70% of the world market, while only 350 million were sold in China.

On July 1, the reporter interviewed Luo You, a senior engineer at Hangzhou University of Electronic Science and Technology. According to him, since 2007, North America and Australia have banned the use of incandescent lamps. In the spring of 2007, the EU summit reached an agreement requiring EU countries to phase out incandescent lamps and replace them with rare earth energy-saving fluorescent lamps.

Luo You said that Zhejiang is the world's largest energy-saving lamp production base, accounting for about 50% of the world's production, but Zhejiang's energy-saving lamps are 95% exported, and energy-saving lamps are big countries, but it is a small country. LED is a more advanced lighting than energy-saving lamps, and its products are currently sold abroad.

It is understood that in China, the LED industry has initially formed a relatively complete industrial chain. After experiencing the road of buying devices, buying chips, and buying epitaxial films, the LED industry has initially realized the independent production of epitaxial wafers and chips. At this stage, the number of people engaged in the industry is more than 500,000, more than 20 research institutions and more than 4,000 enterprises. In 2006, the total output value of China's LED industry reached 10.55 billion yuan, of which the packaging industry output value reached 8.75 billion yuan.

When will China bid farewell to the Edison era?

How to make a big country get rid of the use of small countries? How to spread energy-saving products? This has to cause the people of China to ponder.

Luo You said that as the world's largest producer of lighting appliances and the second largest exporter of China, the National LED Lighting Project Coordination Leading Group was established in 2003 to officially launch the national LED lighting project. However, the reality is very pessimistic. About 70% of the users in the economically developed regions of China have activated energy-saving lamps. 80% of the rural and underdeveloped areas still use incandescent lamps. Many LEDs have never seen them before, and they have never heard of them.

Why can't LEDs with such energy-saving effects be promoted? It seems that it is too expensive.

A 3 watt LED bulb is about to sell for seventy or eighty dollars. For the family, it can't accept the price of energy-saving lamps five or six times higher than that of incandescent lamps.

This requires us to change some of the perceptions of the price of the company and the people. Take Shanghai Oriental Pearl as an example. When the LED lighting was first transformed, it cost nearly 4 million yuan, but it turned out that this decision was correct. The relevant personnel of the Oriental Pearl Engineering Department introduced: After the transformation, the operation has reached nearly 50,000 kWh per month, and the annual savings are more than 500,000 yuan. Nowadays, the electricity cost saved is basically recovered from the original conversion cost. It is reported that after the taste of sweetness, Oriental Pearl is planning to replace all the lights inside the company with LED lights.

Some experts believe that, like LED lights, many energy-saving products or energy-saving technologies have been cold in the market in the early days of their popularization. Promoting the use of energy-saving products, of course, requires the public to change their mindset, but what is more needed is the government's promotion and support.

Wang Yunpeng, director of the Comprehensive Technology Division of Zhejiang Energy Monitoring Corps, said that LED is being promoted to urban landscapes, commercial large screens, traffic lights and other fields in China. High-power LED lighting such as street lamps and advertising lights is also being promoted.

However, Luo You believes that the promotion of LED will take time. The Interim Measures for the Administration of Financial Subsidy Funds for Efficient Lighting Products Promotion, which was implemented by the Ministry of Finance in 2008, has included semiconductor (LED) lighting products, but LED lighting products currently do not have complete national standards.
