Semiconductor prices plummeted Toshiba's second quarter loss of 24.2 billion yen

Japan’s Toshiba’s second-quarter earnings report released on the 29th showed that due to the appreciation of the yen and the sharp decline in semiconductor prices, the Group’s main business shifted from a profit of 21.2 billion yen in the same period last year to a loss of 24.2 billion yen, the first time in three years. There was a loss in the second quarter.

In terms of business categories, due to the sluggish system integrated circuit business, the price of NAND-type flash memory has dropped sharply due to the increase in supply. As a result, the revenue of the electronic equipment division including semiconductors has deteriorated significantly. In addition, in the field of digital home appliances, sales of flat-panel TVs and hard disk devices are good, but sales of home appliances such as commercial devices and air conditioners are sluggish.

The financial report showed that Toshiba Group's sales in April-June were 1.6187 trillion yen (about 107 yen and 1 US dollar), a decrease of 3% year-on-year.

Toshiba has not adjusted its performance forecast for this fiscal year, but Japanese media pointed out that if the semiconductor market is in a downturn, Toshiba will have to cut its performance expectations.
