Terry McGowan, technical director of the American Lighting Association (ALA), points out that CRI is not enough to represent color perception. He said that as early as August, the Lighting Engineering Society (IES) had proposed to the government to stop using CRI to define energy regulations. CRI is likely to be replaced and replaced by a combination of color quality standard (CGS) and color gamut area index (GAI).

N.Nanrandran, director of the Lighting Research Center at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, said the university's LRC ASSIST Program is combining CGS and GAI and will soon replace CRI.
