Circuit function
The shunt regulator IC TL431 is equivalent to a programmable Zener diode. It has a 2.5V bandgap reference diode inside and can absorb 100MA current by a transistor. It can be used as a simple reference voltage generation circuit or a constant electric charge generation circuit.
Circuit working principle
The circuit of Figure A is used for the shunt regulation circuit. The output voltage VOUT is determined by the formula VOUT=(1+R1/R2)*2.5. To output 10V, set R1=3R2 to set the bias resistor RB to be related to VOUT and load current IL. RB ≤ (V + - VOUT) / ILO shunt regulation circuit Once the load current is reduced, in order to keep the output voltage unchanged. The current is absorbed by the IC. When the output impedance of the TL431 is above 10KHZ, the CL capacitance should be increased to more than 1UF as needed.
Figure B is a very simple current conversion circuit. The open-loop gain of the TL431 is about 50 DB, and the conversion current stability is very good. In order to make the current sensing resistor R5 generate a voltage of 2.5 V, the base of the transistor must be controlled.
