KUKA Demonstrates Various Applications of Collaborative Robots with LBR Med

Following the first exhibition last year, KUKA will once again be present at the China (Shanghai) International Medical Device Expo (CMEF) in Shanghai in 2018. From April 11th to April 14th, KUKA will demonstrate how to integrate the sensitive lightweight robot LBRMed into medical devices with brilliant application examples.

Augsburg/Shanghai, April 2018 - China (Shanghai) International Medical Equipment Fair has about 4,000 exhibitors, more than 100,000 visitors, is one of the largest medical technology exhibitions in Asia, and is also KUKA's display robot Ideal platform for applying examples in the medical industry. At a joint booth with sister company Swisslog, KUKA will demonstrate a versatile, lightweight robot LBRMed for medical applications.

Various applications of collaborative robots may be possible

KUKA presented an example of an application of the sensitive lightweight robot LBRMed as a versatile auxiliary system for physicians in ultrasound examination, minimally invasive surgery and other applications. When applied to ultrasound, the LBRMed robot is equipped with a probe that can be automatically moved back and forth between two hand-selected points on the abdomen of the model body with a constant pressure. This process ensures the consistency of ultrasound image quality and produces images that are repeatable and easy to compare with each other.

In the demonstration of minimally invasive surgery, the light robot is equipped with a long surgical instrument that is introduced into the body through the endoscope. The robot stores the point of entry and allows the doctor to manually move the robot around this point without applying force to the point of tangency. This helps to minimize the damage to the patient during surgery. For this and other application examples, visitors can experience it personally at the KUKA booth of Hall A01, China International Medical Equipment Expo.
