SAS bug delays Sandy Bridge-EP release

According to news from Taiwan's server supply chain vendors, the Sandy Bridge-EP server processor and its corresponding Romley platform will be postponed until the first week of March 2012 due to SAS storage defects in the supporting C600 series chipsets.

Intel believes that delaying the release will not have a significant impact on the entire server industry and its own business. .

Intel will also release two Xeon E5-1600 and Xeon E5-2600 series server processors for single-channel and dual-channel markets, all based on the Sandy Bridge-EP architecture and adopting the LGA2011 package interface with the C600 series chipset.

Later, Intel will also launch a new Carlow platform, including the Ivy Bridge-E2 Xeon E3-1200 series processor and C216 chipset.

According to related news, AMD will add the Zurich Opteron 3000 series models in the first half of 2012, focusing on the Web set-up, Web server, and micro server markets, and is now ready to ship. The Opteron 6200/4200 series, previously released, has been adopted by HP, Dell, and IBM.

At present, the share of Intel and AMD in the x86 server market is 95% and 5% respectively.
