Huge foundry industry
The advantage of the foundry model is that, in addition to reducing production costs, it can also rationally utilize idle capacity and reduce the company's repeated investment in production. In addition to having the world's most recognized potential lighting market, China also has a cheaper global labor market. Therefore, many international lighting brands have chosen China as their main foundry base.
According to industry insiders, the phenomenon of foundry is very serious in the lighting industry. For example, Philips, the world's largest manufacturer of lighting appliances, is basically a foundry. In addition, domestic brand lighting companies NVC, Opp, etc. have more or less foundry phenomenon, especially Philips, Osram and other international brands, OEM production was close to 90% of the company's total shipments.
The huge market potential has made the LED industry once an investment “blue oceanâ€. However, due to the lack of upstream core technologies and equipment, most domestic LED companies can only get together in the middle and lower reaches of the investment threshold.
Regardless of the exhibition, or the visit of LED lighting companies, "focus on export" has always been the most frequent word heard by "High-tech LED" reporters. The High-Tech LED Industry Research Institute (GLII) reports that more than 70% of domestic LED lighting products are exported to overseas markets.
In fact, the use of foreign chips, or even foreign technology, processed into lighting sources or lamps and then sold back to foreign countries, crowned the name of the export. Or the label of foreign or domestic brand companies is sold in China, and ODM manufacturers are formed, thus forming a large number of OEMs in the domestic LED field, including many well-known domestic lighting companies.
But often OEMs, orders are subject to "employers", flexible income, and low margins, and "temporary workers" is no different.
Quality door frequently "temporary workers" become scapegoats
Generally, the lighting products of brand enterprises have the following advantages: excellent quality, good performance and high price. However, in recent years, branded enterprise lighting products have been dropped in the random inspections of quality inspection departments (Table 1).

At the same time, the consumer of energy-saving lamps is relatively low-end, and the awareness of rights protection is generally not strong. "High-tech LED" reporter once asked a number of consumers about the quality door events of Osram and Philips lighting products, and the response was often "self-accepting." After all, the price of energy-saving lamps itself is relatively low, and their losses are not big. Although manufacturers can return and exchange, the procedures are too cumbersome.
