Ma Ying-jeou intends to loosen Taiwan’s semiconductor investment in the mainland

On July 11, according to Taiwan media reports, Ma Ying-jeou hopes to loosen the restrictions on open semiconductor factories to invest in the mainland. If Intel can set up a 12-inch factory in the mainland, then Taiwan's further opening up should be a reasonable and necessary policy.

Intel announced the establishment of a 12-inch wafer, 90-nanometer semiconductor factory in Dalian in 2007, and is expected to begin production in 2009. The process used at that time may advance to 65 nanometers, which will have a considerable impact on the mainland and global semiconductor markets.

Ma Ying-jeou pointed out that the semiconductor equipment currently invested by Taiwan in the mainland is 8 inches, which is relatively backward in this respect. If the US government can allow Intel to go to the mainland, and the United States is the main country of the Wassenar Arrangement, it is believed that Taiwan's further opening should be a reasonable and necessary policy.

In recent years, Taiwan has gradually relaxed its wafer manufacturing technology to invest in the mainland to 0.18 micron, through the mainland investment case of dynamic random access memory (DRAM) manufacturers, as well as low-end package testing and small-size panel investment in the mainland.
