　　 On December 30th, according to foreign media reports , Sharp has recently reached a cross-licensing agreement with Japanese LED manufacturer Toyota Synthetic Toys Gosei on LED and laser diode patents.
According to the agreement, both companies agreed to use the LED and laser diode patents of their Blu-ray and HD DVD devices owned by Japan and other countries. The agreement includes approximately 900 Sharp patents and 700 Toyota Synthetic Patents. Both Sharp and Toyoda Gosei said that the two sides will strengthen cooperation to promote the development of the LED industry.
Sharp began mass production of light-emitting diodes in 1970, and in 1982 became the world's first manufacturer of laser diodes for laser disc production. A year ago, Sharp entered into a similar cross-licensing agreement with Nichia. It is reported that in order to meet market demand, Sharp plans to develop more advanced LED and laser diode technology.
