How to install a geosynthetics permeability coefficient tester?

Installation and usage of the geosynthetics permeability coefficient tester:

1. Power on the device and press the pressure setting button. Use the “Add” and “Subtract” keys to adjust the desired pressure value. Once set, press Enter to save the settings. After adjusting the lower limit, press Enter again to exit. Next, set the time using the same keys, adjust the zero point, and start the test.

2. Open the water injection cover and fill the tank with pure water until it is completely full. Begin pressurizing and open the pressure regulating valve to allow water to flow into the high-pressure chamber until it overflows slightly.

3. Place the sample flat on the net in the water collector, ensuring no wrinkles or air bubbles are trapped. Cover the porous plate and clamp the sample evenly. For composite materials made of textiles and membranes, ensure the membrane side faces the water surface. If both sides are textile, carefully remove a portion of the fabric and apply an adhesive like glass glue to prevent leaks during testing.

4. Adjust the inlet valve to raise the pressure in the clamp to 0.1MPa. If you know the approximate hydrostatic resistance range of the sample, you can directly set the pressure to the lower end of that range and begin the test. Maintain this pressure for at least 1 hour and observe if any water seeps through the pores of the perforated plate. If no seepage is observed, increase the pressure by 0.1MPa in steps, keeping each level for at least 1 hour. When seepage occurs, record the previous pressure as the hydrostatic resistance value, accurate to 0.1MPa.

5. According to GB/T 19979.2, use the water seepage flow to determine whether the sample is leaking. If the flow rate is very low under a given hydraulic pressure, it’s considered no leakage. If the flow increases rapidly, it indicates damage or holes in the sample, and the test should be stopped. If there’s a droplet in the hole of the perforated plate, wipe it off. If no further water appears, it may be due to edge overflow, and the test can continue. Otherwise, stop the test and record the result.

6. If only one sample is tested and its value is less than 50% of the lowest value, it should be discarded. The lowest measured hydrostatic pressure value among three samples is taken as the final result. If two values differ by more than 50%, additional testing is required.

7. Calculate the test results according to relevant standards.

Important: After the test, open the drain valve of the high-pressure chamber, clean the equipment, dry all parts, and apply anti-rust grease. If the equipment will not be used for a long time, open the drain valve at the lower right corner of the main unit to release all water inside, preventing frost damage.
