Or will be based on the next-generation Leaf (Learning) platform, Nissan will launch a new SUV

Nissan is set to introduce a new line of electric vehicles based on the next-generation Leaf platform, including an all-new electric SUV or crossover model inspired by the TeRRA concept car unveiled in 2012. This development marks a significant step forward for the Japanese automaker as it continues to expand its electric vehicle portfolio. The company recently filed a patent application for the "Terra" name with the Malaysian Patent Office, aligning with the TeRRA concept SUV that was showcased at the Paris Motor Show in 2012. It's common for automakers to secure brand names in various markets to prevent conflicts and maintain control over their branding strategy. The TeRRA concept featured a groundbreaking 4x4 powertrain system, combining the Nissan Leaf’s battery and motor for the front wheels, while the rear wheels were driven by a separate motor and hydrogen fuel cell stack. This hybrid approach highlights Nissan’s commitment to exploring multiple energy solutions for future mobility. Nissan is scheduled to launch the second-generation Leaf on September 5, although official pricing and detailed specifications have yet to be announced. Industry experts predict that the new model will come equipped with at least two battery options, with a 60kWh battery pack expected to provide a driving range of around 200 miles—far surpassing the current 30kWh battery’s 107-mile range. In terms of driver assistance technology, the new Leaf will feature two semi-autonomous systems: the ProPilot Assisted Driving System, designed for highway use, and ProPilot Park, which offers fully automated parking. These features are currently available in European and Japanese markets for 2018 models, but they are expected to become more widely available in the upcoming generation. As the automotive industry moves toward electrification and automation, Nissan’s continued investment in the Leaf platform shows its long-term vision for sustainable and intelligent transportation. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting development in the world of electric vehicles.
