As the exclusive lighting sponsor of the exhibition, Philips Lighting opened the main hall of the Sea World Art and Culture Center with a compelling display titled “Digital Dimensions.†This immersive installation blends design aesthetics with cutting-edge smart connected lighting technology, offering visitors an engaging visual and sensory experience.
With over 125 years of innovation, Philips Lighting continues to push boundaries by integrating its latest smart lighting solutions into art and exhibitions. The company has partnered with Design Interconnector, a new integrated cultural platform, to showcase how lighting can enhance both artistic expression and technological progress.
The “Digital Dimensions†exhibition features 60 works from top international and domestic designers and artists, inviting visitors on a journey through digital encounters, interactions, and participation. It explores how design shapes our lives and bridges the gap between technology and human values. The exhibition ran until June 3, 2018.
Philips Lighting used its PCK series products to create dynamic, tailored lighting effects that bring out the creative vision of each artist. These lighting solutions not only enhance the visual impact of the artworks but also offer a deeper, more immersive experience for the audience.
Shen Xiaohui, Vice President of Philips Lighting and General Manager of the Marketing Department for Greater China, emphasized that the charm of lighting lies in its ability to connect technology, art, and life. “The lighting design for the opening exhibition reflects both the technical innovation of our products and the unique aesthetic value they bring to art and design,†she said.
Ole Berman, from Design Interconnector, highlighted the collaboration with Philips Lighting as a key element in delivering the best possible lighting experience. “We are excited to see visitors engage with the exhibition space and experience the fusion of digital design and smart lighting,†he added.
In addition to the PCK series, Philips also used ColorBurst IntelliHue Powercore floodlights and flexible strips to power the interactive installation “Light Night,†created by designer Stickyline. This piece uses real-time data on urban light pollution to generate ambient lighting, sparking cultural dialogue. The Philips Show smart floor and table lamps further demonstrated the future of smart home lighting.
The exhibition also featured a panel discussion at the “International Creative Practice†forum, where Li Kunhong, Asia-Pacific Design Director at Philips Lighting Design Center, spoke about the evolving role of lighting in shaping culture and society. “Lighting is no longer just about illumination—it’s about creating meaningful connections between people, environments, and ideas,†he said.
Design Interconnector, a collaboration between China Merchants Shekou and the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A), serves as a hub for cultural exchange. Located in Shenzhen’s Shekou district, it offers a dynamic space for diverse artistic and cultural activities.
Since 2013, Philips Lighting has supported emerging talent through its “Elite Designer Growth Plan,†providing training and cross-disciplinary opportunities for designers worldwide. This partnership with Design Interconnector reinforces its commitment to advancing lighting design and innovation in China.
Through these efforts, Philips Lighting continues to lead the way in blending art, technology, and human-centric design, setting new standards for the future of lighting.
