Application Research of Embedded Industrial Ethernet

1 Introduction

With the development of network technology, industrial Ethernet has become a research hotspot in the industrial control circles of various countries. The Zhejiang University of China, the Shenyang Institute of Automation, and the Zhejiang University Central Control Institute, which carried out this research earlier, drafted the “EPA System Structure and Communication Standard for Industrial Measurement and Control Systems” with the support of the national “863” project. And strive to build several demonstration applications in the chemical industry. Guangdong University of Technology and Central South University, Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences carried out research on embedded industrial Ethernet, and carried out "development of industrial Ethernet controller based on uClinux embedded system", dedicated to the advantages of embedded systems in the field of industrial control.

2 Application background

Pressure, temperature, water level and flow rate are the most commonly used control systems in the chemical, sewage and steel industries. In order to study the general network control system in various industries and different process flows, the process flow will not be emphasized in this paper. The application test object will also use the controlled object of the imitation industrial site pioneered by Central South University. This paper will fully simulate the industrial site test on the four most commonly used pressure, temperature, water level and flow control systems.

3 Embedded Industrial Ethernet System Structure

The enterprise field network is divided into a control layer and a device layer. The traditional Ethernet topology is improved in the control layer network for the strict requirements of the site reliability parameters. The ring network topology can increase the reliability of the network.

To solve the real-time problem of the network, the concept of Control Domain is adopted, which will control the site partition and reduce the competition of resources in each control area. The control area is communicated via an Ethernet switch (switched).

The improved network structure is shown in Figure 1. The control layer network is composed of 100M Ethernet to form a ring network.

Each Control Domain contains an Ethernet switch and an embedded Industrial Ethernet controller, as well as some transmitters and actuators. as shown in picture 2.

The Industrial Ethernet controller located in the control area is designed with an embedded system.
