According to recent reports from the US media, Geneva will add more than a dozen electric vehicles to its municipal bus system. Soon after, it just signed a contract with Swiss domestic company ABB to establish a fast charging network. The Geneva Public Transport Department signed a contract with ABB worth US$16 million (approximately RMB 107 million) and ABB will work with Swiss automotive manufacturer HESS to complete the order. Geneva is the second largest city in Switzerland. Just before the order was signed, Geneva had just launched a pilot program.

The electric buses will be connected to Geneva Airport and a new district called Praille-Acacias-Vernet, which will have approximately 11,000 residents and will also build new apartments and office facilities for 11,000 employees. This line is expected to carry more than 10,000 passengers per day and will set up 13 “flash charging stations”. The flash charging station has a power of 600 kW (5 times that of the Tesla Super Charging Network), and the bus can get enough power to drive to the next station with only 15 seconds of charging. An electric bus departs every 10 minutes, and the vehicle can have a fast charging time of 5 minutes after reaching the terminal.

Once this project is launched, it can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 1,000 tons per year compared to diesel buses. In addition to building a charging network, ABB will also provide rooftop solar cells to conserve electricity.
