[Application] Giant robots may solve the housing crisis

According to the World Health Organization, about 8.63 million people live in slums, and this number continues to increase.

This is a serious problem, especially when you consider Maslow's theory of hierarchy of needs (a theory in human psychology that lists the basic needs of humans) as a factor of thinking. Berok Khoshnevis, an engineering professor at the University of Southern California, points out that in Maslow's pyramid theory, residence is considered to be the most basic requirement.

This is why Professor Berok Khoshnevis wants to use technology to solve the world housing crisis.

Berok Khoshnevis is the inventor of the Contour Crafting principle, using giant robots to build concrete and build houses.

3D printing technology has enabled circuit piping, plumbing and air conditioning systems to be formed after the house is built.

The 3D printing method has many advantages. First, the 3D method is faster than manual.

The robot can build the entire circuit of a 2000-foot house within 24 hours.

“Some people ask, what is the advantage of building a house in one day in the case of natural disasters and wars,” Berok Khoshnevis told TechInsider.

“If an earthquake, flood or other natural disaster occurs, many people will lose their house in a flash. These people must have their own house within a day,” he continued.

The CC method is also less expensive than traditional construction methods because there is no need to transport materials at all – all the materials needed for the house will be ready on site.

In addition, you don't have to pay for the cost of manual construction. Professor Khoshnevis mentioned that he is ready to raise money and launch an entry-level machine on the market within two years.

Professor Khoshnevis also worked with NASA to print houses on the moon using giant mechanical equipment.

Why choose on the moon? Because it can provide a blueprint reference for what kind of house humans live on Mars.

“People who have no place to live are desperate, because they have no shelter, they have no social security, they have lost the right to education, and everything that comes with it,” Professor Khoshnevis mentioned.

He believes: "The first step is to improve their living conditions."
