This initiative is expected to position China as a leading force in global network innovation. Despite its importance, the transition to IPv6 has been slow in China compared to developed nations. According to data from the Asia-Pacific Internet Information Center, IPv4 addresses will likely be phased out within a decade, making IPv6 the only viable solution for future growth. Dr. Vint Cerf, one of the fathers of the internet, has emphasized that IPv6 is the only path forward for sustainable network expansion. China currently lags behind in IPv6 adoption, with limited support across major applications and devices. However, with growing demand for services like VoLTE and the Internet of Everything, the push for IPv6 is accelerating globally. The United States leads in IPv6 deployment, with many tech companies like Apple and CDNAkamai fully supporting IPv6 in their products and services. Internationally, platforms such as Google, Facebook, and Yahoo! already offer IPv6 support, and over 10% of the top 1,000 websites now use it. In contrast, China still faces challenges in content availability, terminal support, and user penetration. To catch up, the government must work closely with telecom operators, content providers, and device manufacturers to create a unified and coordinated ecosystem. Experts suggest that IPv6 promotion should be integrated into website management systems, enforced through device testing, and mandated in emerging sectors like smart cities and IoT. Only through collaborative efforts can China overcome its current limitations and fully embrace the potential of IPv6.
