A few days ago, the Provincial Consumers Association released a comparative test report on induction cookers and electric pressure cookers. The findings indicate that the safety and performance of both types of appliances tested are generally satisfactory. Among the 46 induction cooker samples, most performed within normal ranges. However, one electric pressure cooker out of the 15 tested was found to have a fire hazard.
The functions of different brands of induction cookers are quite similar, giving consumers a wide range of choices based on their personal preferences. The samples for the induction cooker test were purchased by staff from the Provincial Consumers Association as regular consumers, including stores like Suning Tesco, Gome, Sanyou Electric, Carrefour, Sams, Meitehao Supermarket, Puguo Electric City, Taiyuan Xinyuan Changda Trading Co., Ltd., as well as online platforms such as Tmall and JD.com. The brands included Midea, Jiuyang, Supor, ASD, Haier, Xinfei, Hemisphere, Rongshida, Galanz, Yangzi, Xiaobawang, CHE, Meiling, Zhigao, Lechuang, Ai Ting, Emmett, Shangpentang, PHILIPS, Oaks, Titanium, Pentium kitchenware, Dasong, and more. The products ranged from low to high-end models, with prices between 99 yuan and 1,499 yuan.
According to the association’s officials, while higher-priced induction cookers tend to offer better design, heavier build, and more stable power output, the basic functions across all brands are quite comparable. Well-known brands also tend to have smaller power deviations and more user-friendly controls. In terms of electrical safety, the tested products performed well in areas such as protection against live parts, input power, leakage current, electrical strength, mechanical durability, and structural integrity.
When it comes to electric pressure cookers, the report highlights that even models priced at just a few hundred yuan can meet the needs of average consumers who only use them for basic cooking tasks. The 15 electric pressure cooker samples tested came from various brands, including United States, Supor, ASD, Wanlong, Meiling, Galanz, Haier, and Hemisphere. Prices varied from 200 yuan to 1,699 yuan.
Higher-priced models often feature more advanced functions, such as pressure adjustment, mid-cooking food addition, and clearer instructions. Some models above 1,000 yuan use electromagnetic heating technology, which provides more even heat distribution compared to traditional electric heating elements. This results in faster and more uniform heating.
However, some samples had issues. For example, the "Shenke" SC-100A electric pressure cooker showed no response on its control panel after being turned on, indicating a defect. Another model, the "Big Red Double Happiness" ZDY50-90D, exceeded the acceptable power deviation range (+1.7%), which could pose a fire risk if the power line is not sufficient to handle the current. The rest of the samples were within the acceptable limits.
When it comes to energy consumption, the lowest power usage was recorded for the Haier HPC-YLJ4062 at 187V, while the highest was seen in the Big Red Double Happiness ZDY50-90D. At 242V, the same model still had the highest consumption, but the difference between 187V and 242V was minimal, around 0.20271kW.h.
When purchasing induction cookers or electric pressure cookers, consumers should pay attention to whether the product has a "3C" certification mark, which ensures quality and safety. It's also recommended to buy from reputable stores with proper licenses and good reputations. Additionally, checking the energy efficiency label can help consumers choose more energy-efficient products.
Other important tips include avoiding direct contact with the surface of an induction cooker immediately after use, as it may still be hot. When cleaning, make sure the appliance is powered off and cooled down. For electric pressure cookers, never immerse the unit in water or spray it directly. Always clean the inner pot with a non-metallic sponge or brush and dry it thoroughly afterward.
By following these guidelines, consumers can ensure safe and efficient use of these kitchen appliances.
