Automotive lighting high-end headlights are gradually becoming a trend in China

The wave of transition from reflective headlamps to projection headlamps in Europe has also hit China. But this trend in China is mainly reflected in the mid- to high-end automotive sector.

Ao Jin long, head of general design and development at Shanghai Xiaohao Auto Lamp Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Koito Manufacturing Co., Japan, said: "This trend is very evident in the mid-range segment. The attractiveness of projection lamps Very large. For the low-end market of A-class cars and below, reflective headlamps are still the mainstay."

Projection headlamps have a glass lens mounted on the front of the mirror to enhance the illumination. Projection headlamps are more beautiful than reflective lights and have a stronger lighting.

Shi Jianhui, chief engineer of the body and exterior department of Shanghai Pan Asia Automotive Technology Center Co., Ltd., pointed out that the cost of projection headlamps is also 90% higher than that of reflective lights.

Philips Lighting's new application center was completed in Shanghai on March 10, during which Shi and other industry managers participated in a discussion on automotive lighting trends. Philips Lighting is part of the Royal Philips Electronics Group, headquartered in the Netherlands.

Automotive industry managers predict that the popularity of projection systems in high-end vehicles will drive halogen bulbs to convert to higher-priced, high-density xenon bulbs.

Jenny Huang, head of China's OEM market for Philips Automotive Lighting, said that Xenon bulbs are three times brighter than halogen bulbs, but use only one-third the energy. Xenon bulbs have six times the life of halogen bulbs, but they cost 20 times more.

Adaptive headlamp systems (AFS) are also gaining popularity in China. The AFS will turn the headlights to adjust to the current steering angle.

Shi of the Pan Asia Technology Center said that because AFS contains electronic components, it is costly, so it is mainly used in luxury cars. However, he expects its scope of application to be further expanded.

According to the panel, daytime driving lighting has become a trend in Europe and will appear in more models in China in the future.

One of the reasons is that security is gaining more and more attention in China. "We have introduced more regulations to improve safety," said Krause of Philips.

Moreover, by 2011, the EU will enforce daytime driving lighting, and China's automotive lighting regulations will begin to follow suit.

Krause said: "China absorbs (the European regulations) and improves according to their own needs."
