QuickLogic® has introduced the Visual Enhancement Engine (VEE) to deliver a next-generation mobile multimedia experience. Patented VEE technology provides high-quality contrast optimization for a wide range of mobile/high-end consumer electronics devices that meets consumer demand for a mobile visual experience equivalent to TV while extending battery life.

Committed to providing high-efficiency and flexible solutions for a wide range of consumer electronics/applications, baseband processors, and LCD displays, QuickLogic partnered with Apical Limited to build an Apical algorithm, QuickLogic video enhancement algorithms, and a patented ViaLink® programmable architecture. And developed an integrated module specifically for mobile / portable multimedia products. At the heart of VEE technology is the proven iridix algorithm licensed by Apical Limited, developed by scientists to adapt to ambient light changes when viewing scenes and images.

By intelligently re-mapping the display data to improve sub-regional variation, VEE can improve image and video visibility without affecting the screen image effect, which is the consumer's split screen. A very important requirement when browsing the web, mobile TV and YouTube features. VEE also enables mobile devices to deliver superior user experience in outdoor or high-light environments without the need to enhance LCD backlighting, extending battery life. In indoor or amblyopia conditions, VEE enables mobile devices to operate under weak LCD backlights and to ensure a visual experience. It is more common to watch movies on mobile devices while on the plane. One of the advantages of the VEE architecture is that its settings can be updated in real time and appropriate algorithms are applied as the ambient lighting conditions change.

VEE technology will be added to the QuickLogic Validation System Block (PSB) library for multiple silicon platforms and will eventually be offered to OEMs and ODMs as a Customer Customized Standard Product (CSSP).

Like all QuickLogic silicon platforms, QuickLogic's on-board programmable architecture provides an unprecedentedly flexible custom CSSP for exact user needs. To meet the needs of the mobile market, QuickLogic has also developed packaging strategies that support small ball grid array (BGA) and wafer level chip scale packages (WL-CSP).

The Visual Enhancement Engine is now available as a verification system block for the QuickLogic PolarPro family of programmable solution platforms. The engine will also be integrated as a hard logic on the next-generation ArcticLink family of solution platforms and is expected to be available in the third quarter of 2008.
