FairchildSem Announces PFC/PWM Controller with Conversion Efficiency Over 90%

Recently, Fairchild Semiconductor developed the integrated critical conduction mode PFC and quasi-resonant current mode PWM controller product FAN6920MR, which has obvious energy saving effect and can provide more than 90% conversion efficiency. Power consumption under load conditions is less than 300mW, suitable for LED street lights.

The FAN6920MR includes a power factor correction (PFC) controller and a quasi-resonant PWM controller that provides cost-effectiveness with fewer external components. In the PFC section, the component uses a controlled on-time technique to provide a stable DC output voltage for normal power factor correction. In addition, the FAN6920MR uses an innovative Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) optimizer to further improve THD performance by reducing input current distortion during zero-crossing.

In terms of PWM control, the FAN6920MR offers several features that improve power system performance, including: extended valley detection to up to the twelfth valley cycle to reduce switching frequency; improved light load efficiency, energy efficient operation mode , internal 10ms soft motion and high/low voltage over-power compensation.

In addition, the FAN6920MR offers a variety of protection features such as undervoltage protection, secondary side-open loops and overcurrent protection with automatic recovery, external auto-recovery triggering and internal thermal shutdown protection.

The FAN6920MR is available in a 16-pin small form factor package (SOP) for all-in-one PCs, small laptop AC/DC power converters (thin), open-frame switching power supplies (SMPS) and battery chargers, as well as LCD TVs and LED street lights. .
