What are the methods for detecting carbon and sulfur in steel?

With the advancement and development of the steel industry, the quality of products is demanding, and analytical methods are becoming more and more important. Several methods commonly used to detect carbon and sulfur in steel, simple titration, volumetric method, gravimetric method, etc. are traditional methods of detection and analysis, and infrared absorption method is now a rapid detection and analysis method commonly used in steel enterprise laboratories. Infrared precision absorption method to detect carbon and sulfur in steel, high-frequency infrared carbon and sulfur analyzer using high-frequency induction furnace after combustion infrared absorption method, a wide range of detection (metal materials and non-metallic materials), the method is highly accurate.

1. Infrared absorption method (infrared carbon sulfur analyzer): The carbon and sulfur in the sample are heated at a high temperature under an oxygen-rich condition to be oxidized to carbon dioxide and sulfur dioxide gas. After being treated, the gas enters the corresponding absorption pool, absorbs the corresponding infrared radiation, is forwarded by the detector as a signal, and the output is processed by a computer. The method has the characteristics of accuracy, rapidity and high sensitivity, and the high and low carbon sulfur contents are used. The infrared carbon sulfur analyzer adopting the method has high automation degree and high cost performance, and is suitable for enterprises with high analytical precision requirements.

2, the volume method (gas volume carbon sulfur meter): commonly used carbon measurement is gas volume method, sulfur is measured by iodometric method, acid-base titration method. In particular, the gas volume method for measuring carbon and iodized amount of sulfur is fast and accurate. It is the most commonly used method for the combined determination of carbon and sulfur. The accuracy of the carbon-sulfur analyzer using this method, the lower limit of carbon content is 0.050%, and the lower limit of sulfur content. 0.005%, to meet the needs of most occasions.

3. Titration method (titrator): Non-aqueous titration is used to determine the carbon and sulfur elements of steel by acid-base titration. It is matched with arc burning furnace and is suitable for general laboratory, pre-furnace test and so on.

4. Gravimetric method (carbon and sulfur combined measuring instrument): Commonly used alkali asbestos absorbs carbon dioxide, and the carbon content is determined by “incremental”. Sulfur is usually determined by wet method. The sample is decomposed and oxidized by acid to be converted into sulfate. Then, barium chloride is added to the hydrochloric acid medium to form barium sulfate. After precipitation, filtration, washing and burning, the sulfur is finally calculated. The content. The disadvantage of the gravimetric method is that the analysis speed is slow, so it is impossible to use it for on-site carbon and sulfur analysis. The advantage is that it has high accuracy and is still recommended as a standard method at home and abroad, and is suitable for standard laboratories and research institutions.
