Melexis Introduces Second Generation Triaxis Motor Position Sensor

Melexis announces the second generation of motor position sensors (resolvers) based on its patented Triaxis Hall magnetic sensing technology.

The new MLX90380 single-chip solution can be used to measure the absolute angle of the motor and is suitable for all brushless motors including permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM) and brushless DC motors (BLDC). Automotive electrification has spawned a growing number of related applications, and the MLX90380 offers an ideal solution.

The sensor's 2us input signal sampling rate and 8us output signal refresh rate make it ideal for high-speed rotating electrical applications such as automotive electric power steering (EPS) and superchargers; the MLX90380 provides sine and cosine proportional to VDD The analog signal output supports a magnetic field strength working environment of 10mT to 70mT, and can configure the magnetic field in three directions of XYZ.

The MLX90380 is unique in that it can be mounted at the end of the shaft or on the side of the shaft. By simply selecting the correct product code and using the ring magnet on the rotor shaft and the side-mounted MLX90380, the designer can now measure rotor speed and position from any position on the shaft.

With an operating temperature range of -40°C to +150°C, the MLX90380 is ideal for demanding applications in industrial and automotive applications. The standard version is available in a small SOIC-8 package, and the fully redundant version is available in a SOIC-16 package. For PCB-free applications such as direct mounting in motors, it is available in a DMP-4 package.
