Artemis Vision pushes inspection of small parts, machine vision systems

The visual inspection of small parts by manual inspection is a daunting monotonous task, and it is difficult for different operators to ensure a consistent inspection method or procedure. Machine Vision solution provider and system integrator Artemis Vision introduces the visionStaTIon stand-alone machine vision system designed to test small parts, either as a stand-alone workstation or integrated into existing work environments.

It is reported that in order to design a successful small part/testing equipment, it is first necessary to understand the parts manufacturer's requirements and equipment placement space limitations; secondly, the inspection equipment must use consistent methods and procedures to ensure that the test results are correct and repeatable ( Repeatability); Finally, the part manufacturer must be sure what to look for in order to avoid a small drain.

The use of machine vision inspection systems is more convenient than manual inspections to assist component manufacturers in the easy cataloging of known defects. Since the surface of the part being inspected will be glossy due to the illumination of the source, the dynamic range is critical to the clarity of the part, so the choice of camera must be based on high resolution and excellent dynamic range requirements.

Allied Vision Prosilica GT4905 digital machine vision camera and lighting with ON Semiconductor's 16M pixel KAI-16050 CCD image sensor, through the GigE interface, the picture update rate of up to 7.5 fps. In addition, the Prosilica GT4905 is equally enjoyable even if the visionStaTIon is in a tough working environment.

Artemis Vision says that in a three-second cycle, an operator can load about 10,000 parts for inspection during duty hours, so visionStaTIon is suitable for target customers who need to inspect no more than 20,000 small parts per day, and the operator Elastic automation and repeatability are required with production batches, and parts that are transported by conveyor belts are not necessarily fully automated.

Artemis Vision builds the visionStaTIon system based on the parts and operating environment that the manufacturer wants to test. Currently available in 1.5 cubic feet and 1 cubic foot size, large systems can inspect parts up to 6 inches and detect as small as 0.01 inches. The small system can inspect parts below 2 inches and detect defects as small as 0.003 inches.

Artemis Vision plans to use the CMOS camera and C-mount optics for the next generation of visionStation sensors to provide more lens options and further reduce the overall system size.
