Samsung's battery company SDICEO Jun Young-hyun stated that the electric vehicle battery market will continue to expand and will drive the company's business development, and Samsung SDI will ensure that it will achieve growth targets this year. This year, Samsung SDI’s electric vehicle battery plant in Hungary will be officially put into operation.

Global automakers are rushing to invest in the research and development of electric vehicles. In addition, greenhouse gases cause global warming. Their control is increasingly strict and the electric vehicle battery market continues to expand. An LG chemical executive said: “Because of the strengthening of tailpipe emission control and the ever-increasing fuel economy efficiency standards, major automakers in the world have accelerated the production of electric vehicles, and the battery market will expand rapidly.”

As a supplier of electric vehicle batteries for the world's major car companies, such as Audi and Renault-Nissan Alliance, LG Chemicals mainly cooperates with car manufacturers and companies involved in energy storage systems. In 2016, LG Chemical spent 400 billion won (approximately 375 million U.S. dollars) to build an electric vehicle battery production base in Poland. After completion, the annual battery output will exceed 100,000.

Korean SK Innovation (SKInnovation) also announced that it will invest 1 trillion won (about 925 million US dollars) to expand the battery production line to meet market demand. The company invested 8,000 trillion won (US$734 million) to build an electric vehicle battery plant in the northwestern city of Komarom. The new plant occupies an area of 430,000 square meters. It will break ground in February this year and start production in 2020. . After completion, the annual production capacity is approximately 7.5 GWh. Comaron is also home to Audi's production line and is also close to Daimler's production base.

In addition, SK Innovations has expanded its Seosan electric vehicle battery plant in the southern region, which is 150 kilometers from Seoul. This will increase the domestic supply of batteries in South Korea, and the total production capacity is expected to reach 4.7 GWh. The company said that using the battery produced by the new plant, the electric vehicle's single charge cruising range can reach more than 500 kilometers. SK Innovation is not only Korea's top oil refining company, but also explores other business areas. Since 2008, it has actively researched and developed electric vehicle batteries.
