If Wang Xiaochuan’s "rice bowl" is taken over by artificial intelligence, would he be happy? During the Two Sessions, AI became a hot topic that couldn't be ignored. Wan Gang, Minister of Science and Technology, emphasized the need for long-term planning in AI development, stating that it should drive the release of AI standards and strengthen policy research to address challenges related to social ethics, personal privacy, and national security. However, for entrepreneurs riding the AI wave, the current development of AI seems far from reaching such strategic levels. Some even view being replaced by AI as a positive change.
As a major player in the AI field, Sogou CEO Wang Xiaochuan shared his insights on artificial intelligence during the Two Sessions.

“Artificial intelligence has two main applications. One is where machines can make decisions instead of humans, like in games such as chess. The second is where machines provide services like speech recognition, image recognition, and text translation,†Wang explained. He believes that major changes are happening in social interactions, and once human-computer interaction becomes seamless, life will become more convenient and efficient.
When discussing the progress in speech and image recognition, Wang said their speed is simply “unbelievable.†For example, voice can now be automatically converted into text, allowing for more command-based control of devices. Upon arriving home, users can unlock doors using facial recognition—like the “èŠéº»å¼€é—¨â€ (ZhÄ«ma KÄimén) experience. In the financial sector, face recognition is also used for fraud prevention.
Machine translation has also made significant progress. Many people have experienced the frustration of using machine translation in the past, where each word was understandable, but the overall meaning wasn’t clear. “Now, machine translation is much smoother. In everyday situations where language accuracy isn’t critical, it performs quite well,†Wang said with enthusiasm.
Artificial intelligence robots are beginning to enter daily life
However, throughout human history, technological advancements have always been a double-edged sword. Could AI one day become the “Sword of Damocles†hanging over humanity? Since its inception, this question has never ceased to be asked.
“AI isn’t that smart,†Wang said with a smile.
“Although our speech recognition system has reached 97% accuracy, this is in a noise-free environment,†he added. He explained that unlike humans, machines cannot automatically filter out background noise. In situations where many people are speaking at once, it's very difficult for the machine to extract meaningful information. “Speech recognition is one of our best technologies, but the gap between machines and humans is still huge.â€
Wang admitted that in repetitive and non-complex tasks, machines can indeed replace humans. They can learn through big data training to complete certain tasks. But in some industries, machines may struggle.
Does AI really replace humans?
Taking the domestic industry as an example, human work involves making comprehensive judgments based on factors like semantics, tone, and context. “So, not all service industries will be replaced by machines in the future. In sectors that involve dealing with people or require continuous learning, AI is still uncertain,†Wang said.
For this “clumsy†machine, Wang is not worried. Instead, he sees it as a positive development. “AI will only replace highly repetitive jobs that require manual labor. It can free up people to focus on more meaningful and creative work.â€
Regarding Wang Xiaochuan’s comments, some netizens questioned: Is this just human bias?
