A wireless CPE is a wireless terminal access device that receives a wifi signal and can replace a wireless client device such as a wireless network card. It can receive wireless signals from wireless routers, wireless APs, wireless base stations, etc. It is a new type of wireless terminal access device. At the same time, it is also a device that converts high-speed 4G signals into WiFi signals, but requires external power supply, but the number of mobile terminals that can support simultaneous Internet access is also large. CPE can be widely used in rural, urban, hospital, unit, factory, community and other wireless network access, which can save the cost of laying a wired network.

Application range

We always hope that the coverage of the wireless coverage base station is as good as possible, but the transmission distance of the wireless system is also related to the technical specifications of the customer terminal equipment. The standard WiFi client has limited uplink power (typically 15dBm). Regardless of the downlink power of the wireless coverage base station, the uplink distance of the standard WiFi client is limited by the uplink power, and the distance is very limited. The wireless CPE is a dedicated client terminal device, and the distance between the wireless outdoor CPE and the wireless coverage base station can reach 4 times that of the standard WiFi client.

Of course, in practical applications, it is difficult to find an application environment where the line of sight is unobstructed. The measurement and practical experience of the wireless propagation model show that the transmission distance between the client and the base station using CPE can reach 1Km-5Km.

First, equipment selection

1. Select the appropriate type of CPE equipment according to the specific needs of the environment;

2. CPE equipment must be paired with the same model and cannot be paired with different models.

Second, CPE location and MAC address record

When you use more CPE devices, you need to record the MAC addresses of the CPEs in each location and modify the login IP address of each CPE device. This facilitates the unified management of CPE devices in the centralized management software of Pharos Control.

Third, choose the installation location

1, the installation height

Obstructions such as trees, tall buildings, and large steel buildings can weaken wireless signals during wireless transmission. In order to improve the wireless transmission performance and prevent the signal from being blocked, please ensure that there is no obstacle in the line of sight between the wireless CPE during installation, as shown in the figure below.

How to calculate the minimum installation height of the device?

We must first introduce the concept of "Fresnel zone". During the transmission of wireless signals, obstacles such as large buildings or trees between the transmitting end and the receiving end will reflect signals, causing multipath propagation of the signals, resulting in signal fading. In a pipe-like region with the antenna of the transmitting and receiving antenna as the axis and the radius of r, if there is no obstacle blocking, the signal can be considered to propagate in free space without fading. This pipe area is called the Fresnel Zone. The Fresnel zone is an ellipsoid, as shown in the following figure:

In practical applications, in order to ensure normal communication of the system, the height of the transceiver antenna is set to be as high as possible so that the obstacle between them does not exceed 40% of its Fresnel zone. For example, assuming that d1 and d2 are 2km and 8km, respectively, and the operating frequency f of the CPE is 2.4 GHz, the Fresnel radius r is 14.142 m according to the above formula. Considering a 40% tolerance, the acceptable radius is 8.485m. Assuming that the obstacle height h is 10m, the erection height of the wireless CPE should be higher than 18.485m. Similarly, the results of all obstacles are calculated, and the maximum value is the final result.

2, the installation direction

When installing a CPE device, adjust its front panel orientation to ensure that the receiving device is within its signal coverage. The orientation of the CPE can be roughly determined by means of tools such as Google Maps and GPS, combined with the horizontal lobe width of the CPE device.

Five, static electricity and lightning protection

Lightning protection grounding is an extremely important step for outdoor equipment. As shown in the figure below, the outdoor wireless CPE can be grounded in two ways. Method 1: Grounding with a Category 5 (or above) shielded network cable with a ground wire in combination with a PoE adapter can easily and effectively prevent static electricity and lightning strikes. If you are using a general shielded network cable, you need to use Method 2: Use a ground wire to connect the lightning protection grounding post of the CPE to the ground of the building for grounding.
