Report says SoftBank Mobile wants to acquire Willcom

NetEase Technology News, November 27. According to Reuters, Japan ’s Yomiuri newspaper reported on Friday that Japan ’s third largest mobile phone operator has also joined the ranks of acquiring Willcom, Japan ’s fourth largest mobile operator in.

It is reported that the sale of Willcom is the private equity fund Carlyle (Carlyle). Willcom once asked its investors to be able to reschedule the time to repay debts in order to gain more breathing space for its restructuring.

"Yomiuri Daily" said Carlyle Investment Group will determine the final winning list of bidders at the end of the year. Among all bidders participating in the Willcom acquisition, SoftBank has a great chance of winning. "Yomiuri Daily" said that in this bidding, investment funds also participated.


"Yomiuri Daily" quoted insiders as saying that for the current bidding situation, SoftBank is trying to persuade Willcom investors to hope that they will give up part of their claims. It is reported that Willcom's total debt is 93.5 billion yen (about 1.1 billion US dollars). "Yomiuri Daily" said Willcom's new generation of high-speed wireless network technology and subscription user resources were the main reasons for SoftBank's decision to acquire.

In response to this news, a SoftBank spokesperson declined to comment, and Carlyle's investment officials also failed to provide timely feedback.

Affected by this news, Softbank's stock price today fell 2.4% to 2065 yen per share.
