Non-technical challenges facing SDN

At present, whether it is the Internet industry or the telecommunications industry, the acceptance of SDN is getting higher and higher. Despite this, the commercialization of SDN still needs to address a range of challenges, especially from non-technical areas. The SDN Industry Development White Paper released by the SDN Industry Alliance recently believes that the commercial deployment of SDN needs to actively respond to and take corresponding measures in measuring the return on investment, integrating the industrial chain, application innovation, and the internal system of telecom operators.

SDN

First, accurately assess the return on investment

How to accurately evaluate the return on SDN investment is still a huge challenge. On the one hand, the introduction of SDN technology will have an impact on the overall value of the network. In the past, networks were composed of dedicated hardware and software systems with specific functions. The price of hardware occupies a large proportion of network costs. Now, SDN uses standardized hardware to implement various functions of network elements by loading different software. Therefore, the cost of hardware will be greatly reduced, and the value of software will be significantly improved. How to evaluate the impact of the two network construction models on network costs, there is still no authoritative evaluation standard at this stage. On the other hand, due to the lack of large-scale successful commercial deployment, the evaluation of the introduction of SDN technology has not enough data support to help operators save investment costs and operation and maintenance complexity.

Second, stimulate the application of innovative vitality

The realization of the core business value of SDN technology requires new revenues by stimulating innovation. This appeal is fully reflected in the SDN layered architecture model. In particular, the network capability is open to the upper layer application. Through the service-aware network resource usage, flexible resource scheduling is implemented to meet the dynamic demand of resources and improve the user experience. And innovate business models to bring new business revenue. However, the current opening of network capabilities is still in its infancy, and application innovation based on SDN architecture is still in its infancy. Most network operators are only paying attention to how to reduce network construction costs and operation and maintenance costs through SDN technology. Restricted the new revenue that SDN technology may bring.

Third, effectively integrate the industrial chain

The SDN industry chain involves multiple links. Currently, the industry mainly integrates the superior resources of all parties through the open source model. However, in addition to companies with research and development capabilities such as Google and Facebook that can develop custom SDN solutions based on open source results, most users will often rely on device provider solutions. At the same time, the understanding of SDN is different for different interests in different aspects. The technical route adopted has not reached consensus in the industry. Therefore, most manufacturers tend to increase some solutions based on open source research and development solutions. Private content, which increases the complexity of the integrated industry chain.

Fourth, transform the internal genes of telecom operators

For telecom operators, the traditional operation and maintenance and organization management model is a huge challenge for SDN. Within the operator, departments are often set up according to professional technology. For example, the transmission department is responsible for transmitting the network, the IP department is responsible for the data network, and the wireless department is responsible for the wireless network. However, under the SDN technology architecture, the overlapping and crossover of the business eliminates the obvious boundaries between departments. For example, in the "IP+Optical" scenario, the IP path and the optical transmission network are required to perform unified path calculation and protection coordination, etc., and it is required to break the existing department boundaries within the operator, and the previous independent departments need to cooperate closely. Therefore, how to make the operators' planning, construction, operation and maintenance, and IT departments work together instead of each other is the new requirements and new challenges brought by SDN.

Heavy Duty Connector, also known as HDC, is widely used in construction machinery, textile machinery, packaging and printing machinery, tobacco machinery, robots, rail transit, heat runner, electric power, automation and other equipment requiring electrical and signal connection. The international advanced features of Heavy Duty Connectors in structural design and material usage make the connectors outstanding in electrical performance. The reliability of the electrical connection system can not be achieved by the traditional connection method.
